The Wiener Tschuschenkapelle is a renowned band with extensive experience in playing live on stage, on the radio and on television, at street parties and "mega events", both in Austria and abroad.

In 2004 we celebrate our 15th birthday by a number of anniversary concerts, some of them featuring "Old Tschuschn", former members of the Wiener Tschuschenkapelle, as guests.

The Wiener Tschuschenkapelle makes sure that in the age of omnipresent "worldmusic" the concept of multicultural music is not degraded to a boring and superficial crossover. Politically we stand up for a peaceful togetherness of all people, and we export this message beyond the Austrian borders in numerous tours, including Brazil, Canada, Zimbabwe and Morocco.

The programme features traditional folk and songs of the Balkan region, Mediterranean serenades, Turkish-oriental tunes, Greek Rembetiko, Bosnian Sevdalinka, travelling as far as Russia, taking aboard one or the other Old Viennese song along the way (after all, the name is Wiener Tschuschenkapelle), experimenting with gypsy jazz, and even venturing into the classical realm. (We have even had the honour of playing with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Vienna State Opera.)

The concerts include well-known pieces from the CDs as well as new songs that you cannot buy anywhere or that are played before a live audience for the very first time. The music owes its very special and original charm largely to the "irregularity" of the traditional Balkan rhythms, particularly in 7/8 and 9/8 time.

Over the years we have produced seven CDs. Our latest release was recorded live during the great show at the Ö1 tent at the Wiener Donauinselfest 2004, and was produced by ORF.

Our fifth CD, "live... und davon", was the winner of the Annual Award of the German Music Critics in the "ethno, world" section.

Meanwhile there are nine Tschuschenkapelle CDs to choose from. Our latest album, Bosanske sevdalinke (Bosnian Sevdah Love Songs), was released in January 2007 and features the Wiener Tschuschenkapelle in cooperation with Jovica Petkovic, the great accordionist from Sarajevo. All of our nine albums are a must for the expert and a delight for all lovers of Balkan music.

The originality of the arrangements, the virtuosity of the musicians and the charming and entertaining presentation all contribute alike to a delightful evening.

If you are not interested in inconspicuous background music seasoned with shallow gags - try the Wiener Tschuschenkapelle for a guaranteed highly professional and stimulating entertainment and an altogether unforgettable evening.

Contact us and give us a chance to get together!
After all - we don't only play at the State Opera...
